Criteria for referral

Source: European Guidelines1

  • "Extensive partial-thickness burns...that affect more than 15% of TBSA (total body surface area) in adults and more than 10% TBSA in children and the elderly."
  • "...chemical and electrical burns, circumferential burns and burns associated with inhalational injury, trauma or other diseases."
  • "Burns to the face, neck, hands, feet, armpits, popliteal regions or genitals should also be referred in order to improve functional outcomes."
  • "For medico-legal reasons, referrals should be made on suspicion of non-accidental injury."
